Local around Adelboden
For those who enjoy gentle walking or a rewarding hike Adelboden has extensive possibilities. You can head out into 5 directions and find a host of tracks to suit every taste and for the adventurous there’s always the challenge of crossing over into either the Kandersteg or Lenk valley on a day hike. Public transport will bring you back to Adelboden giving you time to relax and take in yet more of Switzerland’s spectacular scenery. Ask for details of the Hiking Pass that is valid on Adelboden’s cable cars and local buses.  We recommend you visit Engstligenalp and see Adelboden’s own waterfall. Once you reach the top station of the cable car you arrive at a large plateau with well-prepared footpaths. This is the perfect place to walk and view the wild mountain flowers in late spring and early summer.
Other areas that should be visited are the TschentenAlp high above the centre of the village.  The Sillerenbuhl and Hahnenmoos in the direction of Lenk, and the Elsigenalp located above Frutigen. Visit Adelboden Tourist Office at www.adelboden.ch or visit their office in the main street for full details and options.

Half day excursions
From Adelboden we suggest the following half-day excursions. Firstly head towards Frutigen and then take a trip up the valley towards Kandersteg until you reach Blausee (Blue Lake). The Nature Park has a deep blue lake with crystal clear water and is located in 20 hectares with walks for the whole family, picnic places and campfire sites, plus a unique alpine trout-breeding farm. Its restaurant serves trout fresh from the water; you can take a boat trip on the fascinatingly blue lake.
Head towards Spiez until you reach the Niesenbahn, where this funicular railway takes you up to 2,262m (7,749-ft). Here you overlooking Lake Thun and take in spectacular views of the high peaks of the Bernese Alps. You will often have a good view of the Swiss capitol of Bern to the west. The funicular is open from early May through mid-November and departs at regular intervals from the valley station and takes 28 minutes to reach the summit.    (continued)
